About Eneris

Eneris is an independent editorial index of hotels, organised into four categories: art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels. It exists because those four categories are usually scattered across general travel listings where the thing that makes each one distinctive gets flattened out.

What the index does

Every hotel in the index gets a written entry: where it is, what kind of building it occupies, how the rooms work, and what else is on the property. The entries are written to be read in full, and they are visible on the page without clicking anything open. They are deliberately general — the sort of description that stays accurate — rather than a list of specifications that would be stale within a season.

The gauges

The vertical bars on the home page are filled in proportion to the number of entries each category currently holds. That is the whole of what they mean. They are not quality scores, not popularity measures, and not statistics about the hotels themselves. The horizontal bars on the category pages are a typographic flourish and carry no value at all.

What the index does not do

  • We do not rate or rank hotels, and we publish no star ratings or guest scores.
  • We do not take bookings and hold no reservation system. Rooms are booked with the hotel.
  • We publish no guest reviews, real or otherwise.
  • We are not affiliated with any hotel, chain or operator listed here.

Geography

The index is geo-neutral. Hotels are included because they represent their category well, not because of where they are, and there is no single home market behind the writing.

Casino hotels

The casino category covers hotels that include a regulated gaming floor among their facilities. Each is described as a hotel first, because that is what it is: rooms, restaurants, meeting space, often a theatre or a spa, and a gaming floor as one part of the property. Gaming is regulated and age-restricted everywhere it appears in this index. Nothing on this site is a gaming service, and nothing here can be played, wagered or purchased.
